Scrappy Challenge - February, Block 2

This block is referred to as Key Lime Pie.  It is another 9 inch block.  I'm staying with the theme of scraps everywhere, with a touch of black added in for boldness.

Scrap Scramble - January blocks 5

I made six - 6" star blocks from the January pattern. This is for the Scrap Scramble bom with Carol Doak's group.  Initially, I didn't know where to go with all the project blocks since they are all so busy and would be tossed in the mix all together.  I have a problem 'sticking to the script'.  lol

So  I started reviewing my collection of layout plans.  They are so inspirational.  I have one specifically in mind, so I created it in EQ and now I can pop the blocks in there at my whimsy. When I have an idea where I will go with a design, I can be happier with the final result.

Here are my six star blocks.  They are from January - Block 5. I am also adding this to my Scrap Scramble page, where you will find all the blocks for this project together. Just click on the tab at the top.

I wish I had time to re-create all the wonderful layouts in EQ, but we have to reserve some time for sewing.  I'm linking up with Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation where you will see what other creative quilters are working on.

Scrap Scramble - January Block 5

My interest in the Scrap Scramble BOM project has been renewed.  Initially, the layout didnt work for me and having all the busy blocks assembled together didn't work for me. However last evening I went browsing my collection of quilt design layouts.  I found 2 or 3 layouts that would work very well,  So now I know how to proceed again.

I picked up with the January block.  I am making six of the 6" stars.  I have 3 done here.  It is totally scrappy and except for the background pieces, it works straight from the scrap bins.

ScrapHappy Saturday - Pinks 2

I got back to my pink scrap bin, just under the wire for this last saturday of February. I have a new working plan for my rainbow scrap challenge this year *RSC14*;  a horizontal row quilt of assorted blocks, kaleidoscope blocks in 12" and 6" sizes; 6" wonky log cabin blocks and 3" scrappy rails blocks. I'm also collecting 1-1/2" squares for a mosaic cross quilt.

So yesterday I had a marathon working from the pink scrap bin. First, I made these 8 bowtie blocks for the horizontal row quilt.

Then I made these 6 wonky log cabin blocks

I finished off with this batch of skinny rail fence blocks,
I will need to make many more of these

Here is January and February rows together.  I'm already excited about this one.

I am linking up with Angela at Soscrappy where you can see what everyone else is making with their pink scraps this month.

A Theatre Momento

This pattern was mystery block #65 at paperpanache.com.  I made it for a special member of our family who loves to moonlight in the theatre.  It has been on my to-do list for a pretty long time. It is a little quilt finishing at 12" x 14".

Lighthouse W.H. 2

I made another wall hanging, a more appropriate size for the space I'll hang it. I wish I had put a little more space between the center and the border design.  It looked good in EQ. It still needs a good pressing on the seams.  The pieced border is only 1 inch wide.

I'm linking up with lots more creative quilters at Patchwork Times.

Lighthouse Mini W.H. - Redo

I  knew my last Lighthouse creation with nautical blocks was just a tad too large for the space it was intended. DH said it was fine, but the issue pestered me until ............................

I set out to make another one, smaller and fussier. Of course, let's not K.I.S.S., or I might get bored.

So I spent much time in EQ, tweaking the design and trying out borders, borders and more borders.  In the end, I came back to what I started with - the storm at sea units. My project is started ....... the panel blocks are framed to workable sizes. I've started paper piecing the border blocks.  For me, they are miniscule - 1" x 3" and 1" square.  This piece will finish at 10" x 18-1/2" .

Just Checking In

I have been on a family medical leave all week, longer than expected.  I hope to be back in the quilting groove by this upcoming mid week.  That is the plan, anyway.  I am looking forward to catching up with projects and blogs and all things that spark my creativity.  See you soon.

Scrappy Challenge - Block 1

This is my January block for the Scrappy Challenge at Patchwork Times.  My version is not very inventive.  It was suggested to make the block/s into a finished project.  That just didn't work with my 'projects of the moment'. I used a different fabric for every piece in the block. My goal is to make a sampler quilt with the scrappy blocks using a bit of black in each one to tie it together.  Of course, if another month's offering speaks to me loudly, I could make an additional project.

I am happiest when working out of my scrap bins.  Aren't we lucky that scraps multiply during the night?  I'm linking up with the instigator of this Scrappy Challenge, Judy at Patchwork Times.  Hop on over there to see what everyone else has created with their January block.

ScrapHappy Saturday - February Pinks 1

It will be short and simple sewing sessions for me for the next week or so. Yesterday I sorted the scrap bin - pinks and reds are mixed together.  I sorted into a few sizes hoping to make easy work sewing them up.

I began with the kaleidoscope blocks first.  I am still adjusting the recipe for a proper size block. LOL  It's not working yet, but I intend to make all those blocks work together when the end of the year approaches.

My variety of pink scraps is limited.  I do have several fat quarters set aside, but I don't consider FQ as scrap, that is yardage of a different kind.

Next week I can look to the little rail fence blocks and wonky log cabins or maybe Angela will post another block as incentive for my rainbow row quilt.  We'll see what calls to me.

In the meantime, I am linking up with Soscrappy where you can see what other creative quilters are doing with their rainbow scrap challenge.
